Smithfield, NC Eye Care Center: Detecting Glaucoma, The Vision Thief
Eye pain, red eyes, blurring vision, visual disturbance in low light, seeing halos around light sources, tunnel vision–if you’re experiencing any of these, you might want to have your eye checked for glaucoma, before it totally steals your vision. What is glaucoma? Glaucoma is a group of progressive eye conditions that cause damage to the optic nerve, the part of the eye that transmits image information to the brain. Glaucoma is the usual end state of pressure build-up on the eye as a result of abnormal circulation of fluid on the front part. The fluid, called the aqueous humor, flows out of the eye through a mesh-like channel. Glaucoma occurs when this channel is blocked, followed by fluid buildup known as intraocular pressure.
